Twenty-seven years of experience, spanning my work as a vet tech, a primate enrichment activity volunteer while in college, my constant passion for learning about dogs, and training programs from some of the best trainers in the world, such as Nino Drowaert, Karen Pryor, Patricia McConnell, Brendo Aloff (body language and canine linguistics specialist), have led to my methodology. I've based my training on two facts:
1) Dogs are incredibly intelligent and should be treated with respect
2) Alpha dog theory has been disproven for DECADES - This erroneous approach to canine social behavior known as "dominance theory" (two million-plus Google hits) is based on a study of captive zoo wolves conducted in the 1930s and 1940s by Swiss animal behaviorist Rudolph Schenkel. It has been disproven for decades but people who are uninformed continue to spread this misinformation.
My mission in life is to prove to you that dogs can be trained with calm, patience, guidance, rewarding positive behavior, and gently interrupting and redirecting behaviors that are unwanted and/or undesirable. Dogs respond to things that are CONSISTENT, CLEAR, and FUN. Punishing them with shocking, pinching, liver pokes, and choking them with slip leads is ABUSIVE. Period.
I do not care HOW bad you think the dog's behavior is, IT CAN BE CHANGED WITH PATIENCE AND WITHOUT HURTING YOUR DOG. Let me teach you about active engagement and positive flow! It works.
